What's Wrong With FREE Web Sites?
-
In the rush to get your business online,
cutting corners by using "free" web sites may end up costing
you and prove to be more trouble than they are worth.
-
Here are 7 reasons to beware of "FREE"
web sites
-
"Free" web sites aren't FREE! You
"pay" for the site by allowing the host to put any ads they want on
your web site....even those of your competitors! Plus, they often
come with those annoying "pop-up" ads that can drive site visitors
away.
-
"Free" web sites companies go out of
business quickly, or start charging you after a brief
"introductory" period. For example, I used popular "free" web site
builder to build and host several web sites. After a year, they started
charging for their services and altered their sitebuilding software so
that I could no longer upload my web site to the webhost of my choice. My
web sites were in effect being held for ransom!
-
"Free" web sites don't expand with your
business. Often what is "free" is only a minimal amount of servers
space, after which you get charged for "add on's" and the ability to
customize your site.
-
"Free" web sites crash due to
server overload. That means you site may not be available for an
unspecified time.
-
"Free" web sites may claim ownership of
your domain name and not allow you to use it if you move
your web site to another webhost.
-
"Free" web sites rarely offer customer
service or tech support, so if something goes awry, you're up the
cybercreek!
-
"Free" web sites make you look cheap.
First impressions are just as important in business as in personal
relationships.
Investing in a credible and reliable web
designer and webhosting company should pay for itself in a matter of
months. So look at your marketing budget, shop around, get at least 3 bids,
and don't waste your time on "free" web sites.
